Draft for your referee
A reference must come from your referee. They should only confirm what they know to be true, edit anything that isn’t exactly right, and sign it themselves.
What makes a reference useful to an assessor
- Specific duties, not general praise: “planned weekly transport for 40 routes” says more than “a hard worker”.
- Dates and job titles that match your CV exactly.
- Measurable results where possible: numbers, projects delivered, teams led.
- A real way to verify it: company letterhead, the referee’s title and contact details.
